Interscholastic Athletics are an integral part of the Northridge curriculum because they play a significant role in shaping the character of our young men.

Philosophy

The Northridge Athletic Philosophy is rooted in cultivating individual and team virtues that will equip young men to succeed in their endeavors in high school and beyond. Our approach focuses on relationship-based coaching. Northridge coaches build a relationship with each player personally to help him learn about himself and how to maximize his potential in sports and all areas of his life. Further, Northridge coaches elevate the student athletic experience by fostering genuine and deep team friendships.

Additionally, we have redefined the notion of success in the competitive arena beyond simply the outcome of games and contests. The competitive arena serves primarily as a platform for Northridge coaches to help build men of integrity and virtue who will one day be excellent husbands, fathers, professionals, friends to others, and contributors to society. Our athletic philosophy transcends the courts and fields of competition and is accurately summarized in our motto: “Sports at Northridge aren’t just about the scoreboard; they’re about growing up!”

Competitive Excellence

An athletic program that is not competitive will not succeed in building men of character. The Northridge name has become synonymous with competitive excellence in Illinois in recent years. The Knights have garnered championships at the conference, Regional, Sectional, and State Finals levels in various sports. In addition, Northridge student-athletes have achieved the distinction of making All-Conference, All-State, and All-American teams in their respective sports. Applied Leadership

We provide practical leadership opportunities for many of our athletes. Besides team captains, we challenge students to take ownership of their team by setting the standards of excellence they will uphold with the help of their teammates and coaches. In addition, Northridge coaches emphasize that athletic participation is a privilege that carries many responsibilities, including serving as ambassadors and representatives of our institution whenever they travel and compete.

Benefits of our size

At Northridge, we have designed our school size to be balanced: large enough to field competitive teams while allowing most of our students to experience the benefits of a rigorous, competitive athletic team - over 60% of the high school students participate in sports. In addition, our size allows students to play more than one sport or to specialize in the sport where they are most proficient.

Our Coaches

Northridge coaches are carefully selected and are men who embrace the school’s institutional mission. They see themselves as educators and mentors, not simply as someone who organizes a team for a winning season. In addition, they are men with expertise in their sport and who eagerly strive to stay current on the latest and best coaching methods. Northridge varsity coaches appreciate the value of individual player development and actively conduct summer camps and training sessions for our middle school student-athletes.
