Coach Lothian has taught history and literature at Northridge for the past seven years. Before coming to Northridge he earned a doctorate in history from the University of Chicago, published a book, and taught at the university level.Â
Prior to his appointment as JV Soccer Head Coach, Coach Lothian coached middle school basketball and baseball at Northridge, taking 6th and 7th grade basketball teams to the conference semifinals in successive years, and finishing with the best regular season record in one of those seasons, a first in Northridge memory. His 2019 6th grade baseball team made it to a semifinal as well. Many of his middle school players have gone on to play at the varsity level.
Coach Lothian is entering his 3rd season coaching at the high school level. In leading his JV soccer teams he has balanced the desire to win games with the primary goal of instruction and preparation for competing at the varsity level. He hopes in the process to inculcate love of the game, hard work, and good sportsmanship.
When not in the classroom or on the playing field, Coach Lothian can usually be found at home obsessively watching European soccer and increasing his knowledge of the beautiful game. He is also the JV Head Coach for Northridge Baseball.
Coach Lothian lives in the Portage Park neighborhood in Chicago with his wife Sheila. They have four children, including a son entering his junior year at Northridge.
