NILES, Illinois — The Knights varsity golf team placed second in the IHSA 1A Regional Golf tournament Wednesday at The Golf Club of Illinois, advancing to Sectionals for the first time since 2016.
Shooting 325 as a team, the Knights were anchored by a strong, medal-winning performance from Evan Kataoka '25, who shot a score of 78. The Knights top-5 scores were rounded out with clutch performances from EJ Spingola '24 (82), Ruairi O'Hagan '24 (82), Jack Kurt '24 (83), and Jackson Groth '25 (83).
"I'm really proud of our juniors and seniors for all the work they've been putting in and that they're now able to bring all their hard work and execute on the golf course and the way we've talked about all year," head coach Joseph Egan '15 said. "We'd had close matches with a lot of teams at our regional, some that we won and some that we didn't, but we've always talked about the fact that we are confident in ourselves against anyone in an 18-hole match because we are a mentally tough golf team. I look forward to the challenges that await us the rest of the season."
The Knights will tee off at the IHSA 1A Sectional tournament Monday, Oct. 2 at Kankakee Elks Country Club.
