NILES, Illinois - The Northridge Track and Field team made history on Saturday, capturing the program's record-setting 10th consecutive Independent School League conference championship. The maroon and gold squeaked out the win over rival Latin by a score of 146 to 142.
The championship caps off what had already been a successful season for the Knights. During indoor competition, John Heyden '24 had a strong start in shot put, throwing to 45 feet, while John Kipp '24 matched his personal best 800m time of 2:00. Brennan McNamara '24 also ran an impressive personal best 2-mile time of 10:33.
The future of the program also remains bright, with a pair of freshmen having standout performances. Blake Quinley '27 was the first to break a 5-minute mile with a time of 4:52, while John Masaka '27 set a Northridge freshman 2-mile record, finishing in 10:14. The Knights closed out the outdoor season with a team win at a pair of Lake Forest Academy meets in the northern suburbs.
Next up, the Knights will gear up for the IHSA Sectional competition on Wednesday, May 15 at Chicago's Hope Academy.
