Suter places 8th at IHSA Wrestling State Finals

NILES, Illinois — Senior wrestler Jon Suter capped off a phenomenal Knights career Saturday afternoon, finishing in 8th place at the IHSA Wrestling State Finals in Champaign. Suter finishes the season with a 35-5 record, marking a new Northridge program record.

After dropping his first match in Champaign, Suter was able to reel off consecutive victories, putting him in position for a Top 10 individual finish.

"Jon only wrestled competitively for two years. For him to have gotten to the point he has took a ton of dedication," head coach Joe Rhee said. "Jon was a great leader for the team — especially in his actions. He would hit extra lifts outside of practice, run the hardest sprints and would always try to bring an intensity to practice. He brought all of this into his matches. He left everything on the mat this weekend. He went into each match with the right mindset and intensity. I'm proud of him."

Junior Adam Haddad also qualified to participate at the State Finals, but an unfortunate elbow injury prevented him from wrestling over the weekend.

"We're waiting to see if Adam will need surgery on his elbow," Rhee said of the junior. "Adam was Jon's drilling partner all year, and they pushed each other to get better each day. I believe Adam would have been right there in the mix at state. Two of the wrestlers in our sectional placed 1st and 3rd at State. Adam is right there with them. I would've loved to see Adam wrestle at state this year, but we want to make sure he gets healthy so he can train in the offseason."

Fielding the largest roster in program history, the Knights finished the 2024 campaign with four individual regional champions and two state qualifiers. Rhee says he's proud of the progress they've made.

"As a team, we just keep getting better. We're starting to develop guys who have a love for the sport of wrestling. We're hoping for some good offseason work before next winter season. From this point on, I believe we should be a team that sends at least a couple guys down state each season."
