NILES, Illinois — Knights senior wrestler Adam Haddad finished off a historic career with the highest IHSA state tournament finish in program history on Saturday, defeating Princeton's Casey Etheridge by major decision to take home 3rd place in Champaign.
Haddad ends his senior campaign with an incredible 42-3 record. The week prior in Coal City, Haddad became the first Knight ever to take home an individual IHSA sectional title as he battled his way to the top of the 165 lb division. Haddad wasn't alone as the only Knight on the podium either. Freshman Joe Kopecky brought home a medal of his own, taking 2nd place in the 126 lb weight class, while junior Javier Rodriguez placed 4th in the 144 lb weight class as all three wrestlers advanced to state.
Head coach Joe Rhee couldn't have been more proud.
"Adam worked his tail off during his four years of wrestling at Northridge," Rhee said. "He started his freshman year with a record of 7-14 and ended his senior year with a record of 42-3. He was a great model of hard work. We're a young program. We started having state qualifiers two years ago with our first placer this year. We're looking for the program to continue moving in the right direction and continuing to improve year over year."
